We note with great sadness and regret the passing of our friend and colleague Kenny Schwam.

Kenny recently moved to the Vineyard, but counted this island and Nantucket as his native stomping grounds. He spent his youth fishing and exploring the beaches of Nantucket, Cape Cod and the Vineyard. During these early years Kenny experimented with tackle and techniques. He introduced himself - no, he thrust himself -- on the the fledging industry of saltwater flyfishing with gusto and enthusiasm. with a scientific curiosity and an artisan's flair, Kenny carved new lures and plugs, tied new fly patterns and experimented with new material and techniques. After mastering light tackle inshore around New England, Kenny extended his focus to fresh water flyfishing. he opened and ran Delaware River Anglers in Willow Grove, Pa. There Kenny continued to expand his world of friends and fishing by tying graceful freshwater patterns, and more importantly teaching others how to tie and use his beautiful creations. While operating his tackle shop, Kenny took groups of anglers to the tropics, where out of the way was never out of the question. Kenny expanded his - and his friends' - horizons by always trying the new, walking the untrod path, and with a zest and chuckle - exploring the unknown. And before he could unpack his bags or sort out his gear from a trip, Kenny would be in his shop - or on the phone - sharing with us his newly gained insights and understanding. Kenny had just begun a new career on the Vineyard as the fly manager of Larry's. In the brief few weeks since his return, he refined some traditional patterns, modified alot of our tackle, and made us all better people and anglers. Kenny eagerly took from us our friendship and respect. He gave to us an intimate insight to fishing and a fundamental understanding of nature. And when we were up for it - he shared with us his reckless abandon for life and adventure. Kenny left us doing what he did best and loved most: Walking a beach where he was pursuing the striped bass, with a novice angler in tow. And we don't need to try hard to see Kenny hell bent to catch the fish, to teach the angler, and then return the fish to the seas so one day we can all do it again. Kenny - we will miss you, but we're sure that you have now found fishing Valhalla where you always cast with a tight loop on the back cast. Tight Lines forever Kenny known and remembered to many as 10 x 10.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the celebration of Kenny's life held at the Road and Gun Sept. 14th -
