Fish all around the island!!!
General fishing report:
I am just going to add a little piece to yesterdays report.. Fish are at big bridge. That usually means they are everywhere!! Multiple reports of fish being caught of big bridge day and night. Water Temps are back to 49.1 degrees today! Temps were 50 to 51 degrees and are back down. But they are slowly climbing again. Tonights thru Saturday mornings weather will probably make it drop again. The south east end of the island is fishing slow. With reports of 22 to 28 inch fish coming from the mid south side. A customer Bob caught a 29 and a 30 inch fish 2 days ago on the south side. Ron and Peter were held to one fish. Fishing here has been up and down. Fishing is slow at best. Not many people fishing. The weather has been ruining the fishing patterns. Still Herring all around the island. Both River Herring and Blueback. Favorite lures are Still,Storm shad. White and bunker. 4'' are the sizes. The half and one ounce Joppa Jig to. There is a new secret lure!! Stop by, I will show you. People are still fishing the ponds for hold overs. On the Ocean side Cast as far as you can . Do not retrieve till they hit the bottom. Slow and steady on the 5th or 6th crank. Give it a yank.
There is a new breach,on south beach. It is right in the area of Nortons Point. It is not as big, as the other. It is 6 foot deep and has a little island in the middle. Bass reportedly swam threw and followed herring to the Edgartown herring run last week. Commercial clammers are reporting that they are frequent visitors. The new and last years breech's are making for fast currents. No reports of squid in the harbor yet. I hope it is not going to be like last spring. The squid did make a good appearance in the fall. So i have my fingers crossed.
Boat Fishing:
Still reports of Tatoug on the North shore. Tatoug season has been closed. Cod, Sea Perch and a couple haddock Off the south side of Noman's Island. Boat bass fishing is not far away. Call the shop and book a charter.
Bait:
The amount of bait behind the island is insane!! Fishing for mackerel this Thursday and Friday. We encountered a fishfinder screen full of different baits. Down deep we caught baby Cod, Black Sea Bass, Huge Sandeels, Alwives and blue back herring and Big Mackerel. My bait guy. Put his boat in the water. Took a little ride, just to shake the boat down. When he saw something funny. He ran grabbed his bait net and landed 66 bunker on his first cast of the year. Yup Bunker!! There here already in MA>
